Sand Dollar Island Dolphin Tour
Watch for dolphins on the way out to Sand Dollar Island, a half-mile sandbar off Fort De Soto, then spend an hour collecting sand dollars and shells.

Watch for dolphins playing in the wake on the way to and from Sand Dollar Island, a pristine half-mile sandbar just off Fort De Soto and the Shell Key Preserve. You might see sea turtles and manatees too.
Then spend an hour on the island, collecting sand dollars and shells you won't find on St. Pete's vacation beaches: horse conchs, shark eyes and tulips. The water is shallow, with no current, so it's a good place for young and first-time snorkelers to explore.
The boat has a restroom and a bar on board, with water, soda, Gatorade, snacks, beer, wine and mixed drinks for purchase. It picks you up right from the beach by its bow ladder: first at The Luce, 20 minutes before departure, then Sirata Beach Resort, then Dolphin Beach Resort. Wear a bathing suit, since you may step into knee- to thigh-deep water to board, and arrive 30 minutes early: the boat can't come back for late guests.
